Improving Writing Skill of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP PGRI 8 Denpasar in Academic Year 2017/2018 through ESA

Abstract

Writing skill is of the four language skills which is difficult to master both in the first and second language. Writing is a form of communication,which can provide information and message for a purpose. However, the fact existing in the school showed that writing became one of the subjects which was not popular and writing skill was one of the boring skills that should be learnt. The undertaking of the present classroom action research was mainly based on the preliminary observation which was conducted to the subjects of the study, the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI 8 Denpasar in academic year 2017/2018. The result pointed out that their writing skill the result of the pre-test indicated that the subjects’ writing ability was categorized as insufficient. The mean score that was followed by 41 subjects was 52.00. The minimum passing grade was 69. The present study was intended to figure out whether the subjects’writing skill can be improved through ESA. Each cycle clearly showed the significant improvement of the subjects’ ability in writing descriptive text which improved showed the increasing mean figure of 73.87. It also showed that 37 of the subjects could achieve the minimum passing grade and 4 subjects couldn’t reach the minimum passing grade. Furthermore, the research also showed positive responses concerning the implementation of the technique in improving the subjects’writing skill. To sum up,the present classroom action research proved that writing skill of the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI 8 Denpasar in academic year 2017/2018 would be improved through ESA
