PENGARUH VARIASI KADAR IRON SLAG SEBAGAI SUBSTITUSI AGREGAT HALUS TERHADAP KUAT TEKAN BETON

Abstract

Indonesia is a developing country that has many industrial prospects that are quite
advanced, one of which is PT. Barawaja Makassar which is engaged in steel production.
One of the factory wastes produced by the steel smelting industry is in the form of iron
slag, which is apparently still underutilized, causing problems for the environment. In line
with the spirit of environmental preservation, companies producing iron slag are looking for
solutions to utilize this waste. Iron slag can be used as fine aggregate or coarse aggregate as
a construction material in a mixture of asphalt and concrete pavements. This study aims to
determine how much the compressive strength of the concrete if the fine aggregate in the
concrete mixture is substituted with iron slag with superplasticizer added. The variation of
the test objects is the percentage of iron slag of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of fine
aggregate, where the number of test objects is 3 pieces for each variation. The results
showed that the use of iron slag as a substitute for fine aggregate (sand) had a significant
effect on the compressive strength of concrete. The greater the percentage of using iron slag
content causes an increase in the compressive strength of the concrete. The use of 100%
variation of iron slag fine aggregate produces the highest compressive strength of 36.38
Mpa.
