Abstract

Heavy equipment has valuable roles because it helps facilitate big load works in finishing a project.
Types of heavy equipment utilized in a job should be considered because they affect costs, time, and
equipment used. This study aimed to optimize costs of heavy equipment utilization on excavation work,
rigid, limestone heap, and aggregate on the project of section 2 KLBM highway. The selection of heavy
equipment types and amount to be used optimally was based on the calculation of job amount, capacity,
and costs on the project previously discovered for its productivity, costs, amount, and real-time jobs on
the project. It was then analyzed by calculation the linear program using the simplex method. The
analysis results of the linear program and the comparison with project costs to be optimized for
excavation work consisted of 1 excavator unit and 1 dump truck unit of 26%. The limestone heap work
consisted of 1 bulldozer unit, 1 dump truck unit, 1 motor grader unit, and 1 vibrator roller unit is 19%.
Lastly, the rigid casting work consisted of 1 power paver unit and 1 dump truck unit is 76% of project
costs.
