Improving Writing Skill of the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 1 Kuta Utara through Mind Mapping Technique

Abstract

The present classroom action research was mainly intended to figure out whether or not the subjects’writing skill can be improved through mind mapping technique. The subjects were the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kuta Utara. This study was carried out in two cycles. There are four steps for each cycle (planning, action, observation, and reflection). The obtained data was analyzed quantitatively from the pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2; then qualitatively from the questionnaire. The result showed that there was significant improvement of the subjects’ skill in writing descriptive paragraph, pre-cycle (64.12) up to cycle I (81.97) then, it improved in cycle II (84.59). Furthermore, from the questionnaire result, it showed that there were positive responses concerning the implementation of the technique. In short, the present study proved that writing skill of the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kuta Utara can be improved through mind mapping technique
